Face

Mini / Mid / Full Facelift

It’s no secret that gravity begins to take its toll on the face in later decades of life. Once we reach our forties, fifties, or sixties, our neck, face and brow can begin to show our age. We lose the natural contour of our neck, our brows and jowls become a bit heavier, obscuring our jawline, eyelids, and the lines around our mouth become much more visible.

To restore a more youthful and refreshed look, a well-done facelift will reshape and reposition the face without looking stretched or pulled. By addressing the underlying facial structure called the SMAS layer, as opposed to relying on skin for support, the surgeon will yield a more natural look that will last longer.

A typical facelift can correct the effects of aging that happen in the mid to lower half of the face and neck. The procedure includes a facial incision that extends from the temple hairline, around the ear and into the hairline behind the ear. To address the gravitational effects of aging in the neck, a separate incision is made under the chin.

Depending upon your unique, aesthetic needs, Dr. Sherry can customize your surgery by selecting from a mini, mid, or full facelift.

Mid / Lower Face Reshaping

People/patients most commonly complain of the “soft tissue“ areas of their face that they want to improve, but the most beneficial result can’t always be attained by merely repositioning the facial skin and muscle or placing a facial implant. The underlying facial bones may not be appropriately positioned, thereby negatively effecting the overlying soft tissues. By actually moving the facial skeleton and repositioning the bones, a more symmetrical and aesthetically pleasing result can be achieved. Bone repositioning procedures can be for patients of all ages. For young patients we can correct underlying bony abnormalities and asymmetries. For the aging patient, losing facial volume is a normal process resulting in a sagging and weathered appearance. With repositioning of the mid and lower facial bone structure we can gain back volume and create a more youthful and aesthetically pleasing appearance.

Necklift / Submental Liposuction

Classically, liposuction is thought of as a body procedure, however it can also be effectively used to treat fat deposits in the chin and neck area. Certain patients with excessive fatty tissue in their neck can benefit from neck lipo alone, however other patients with heavier necks may require a small incision under the chin to surgically access the fat pad in the midline of the neck. After fat pad removal, an aesthetically pleasing chin/neck angle may be achieved.

Chin Reshaping

Genioplasty, or bony chin advancement or reduction, is a procedure that evolved from the techniques of Orthognathic (Jaw) surgery. Prior to the development of silicone chin implants, it was the only option available for chin recontouring.

However, this technique is still readily used today, and for many patients, provides a distinct advantage to chin implants. First, the technique can be used to reduce the length, overall size or set back the prominent chin. Second, with chin advancement, it allows the advancement of the suprahyoid musculature (muscles of the neck) for patients with weak chin/neck angles and definition. Third, it allows the use of the patient’s own tissue without implantation of a silicone implant. Finally, it permits the correction of horizontal or vertical asymmetries of the chin.

Lip, Cheek, and Chin Augmentation

Lip

Full lips can portray a sense of youthfulness and attractiveness. There are numerous techniques available to achieve lip augmentation. Some techniques are permanent and some are temporary. For those individuals interested in permanent lip augmentation, an anatomically shaped silicon lip implant is easily placed and gives a natural looking fullness to the lips. This implant feels natural to the touch and also may aid in decreasing wrinkles around the mouth.

Cheek

The skin over the face is analogous to that of a drape. The shape of the skin is actually determined by the underlying skeletal framework. Some individuals have a deficiency in the area of the cheeks which can be easily corrected with the placement of silicon cheek implants (malar). These skeletal augmentations redrape and tighten the overlying skin. This can provide a more youthful appearance without the need for more extensive/invasive surgery. Malar augmentation can be performed with no visible scars. These facial implants may be placed via incisions in the mouth and results are evident immediately.

Chin

Many patients desire facial balance and request chin augmentation without having to “cut the chin bone.” This procedure is often combined with other procedures or may be performed as a simple out-patient procedure. Chin augmentation is available to accomplish chin advancement and accentuation of the jaw line with the placement of custom-contoured chin implants. Support of the soft tissues of the lip, jaw line and neck is the foundation that prevents or delays aging of this area of the face.

Ear Reshaping

The socialization of the adolescent is difficult enough. Children who appear to be even slightly different from others are commonly ostracized. As parents we want our children to adjust normally and develop and maintain self-confidence that carries throughout life.

Many children sustain substantial peer abuse if they have large prominent ears. Young girls may be able to camouflage their prominent ears with hairstyle, but young males can not. Otoplasty, or ear-pinning surgery, is a relatively simple procedure performed under monitored conscious sedation on an outpatient basis. It is best timed for summer and holiday vacations so that the minor incisions concealed behind the ears are allowed adequate time for healing. With minimal pain medication, our patients are comfortable and tolerate the procedure and recovery with remarkable ease.

Laser Skin Resurfacing / Chemical Peel

A surgical laser, such as the CO2 laser, is a beam of light capable of removing unwanted tissue, such as scarred, lined, wrinkled, and otherwise imperfect skin. Laser skin resurfacing is bloodless, and is performed right here in our office, under light sedation. As a result of this treatment, you are left with smoother and softer looking skin.
